OutRyders 101

Welcome to OutRyders!
OutRyders is the largest LGBTQ+ ski and snowboard club in the Northeast, here to bring skiers and riders together for unforgettable days in the mountains and nights full of laughter. Our mission is simple: create welcoming spaces on the slopes where camaraderie thrives, diversity is celebrated, and the joy of skiing and snowboarding brings us closer together. Whether you’ve been riding for decades or just got your first set of gear, there’s a spot in our crew for you.

Why Join OutRyders?
Because skiing and snowboarding is better with friends—especially friends who get YOU. OutRyders connects LGBTQ+ riders from across the Northeast through mountain trips, après hangouts, and a shared love of winter adventure. Joining means instant access to a community where you can make new friends, return to favorite trips year after year, and be part of something bigger than just a lift ticket.

Start of Season Socials
Every fall, we kick things off with opening parties in Boston and New York. These are our big season launch events—where we unveil the trip schedule, answer questions, welcome new members, reunite with familiar faces, and raffle off some amazing prizes! They’re part hype-fest, part info-session, and part “welcome home” party for the crew.

In addition to the official openers, we often pop up at other events—like the Snowbound Ski Expo—so you can meet the OutRyders team before the snow even starts to fall. Watch social media for updates!

How to Sign up for Trips

Everything you need (trip calendar, event details, and registration) is on OutRyders.org under “Events.”
To sign up for or attend a trip, you must be a paid member of the club. Once you’re logged in, you’ll see the option to register. Membership unlocks all our trip sign-ups, plus the camaraderie and community that come with them.

Do I Need to Know How to Ski to Join?
Not at all! While most OutRyders are very comfortable on the mountain, we welcome all levels—from first-day beginners to seasoned powder hounds. If you’re brand new, we recommend booking a lesson at the resort so you can start off with confidence. We’re not a formal “learn to ski/ride” program, but you’ll find that our trips always have members of different abilities, so you can ride with folks at your own pace. Trip leaders will help beginners find each other at the start of each day.

Day Trips vs. Overnight Trips

We run both—each with its own vibe.

Day Trips are perfect for first-timers or anyone looking for a low-commitment way to join the fun. They have no extra cost beyond membership dues. We’ll have an established meeting spot and time (look for the rainbow beads and OutRyders banner), and there we will chat, gear up, take a group photo, and then hit the slopes. Groups often form throughout the day based on ability level, and no one’s intentionally left behind. We always have a set lunch meetup spot, so you can reconnect if you get separated. Some folks peel off early, others stay for après—either way, it’s a good time.

Overnight Trips are the heart of the club. Lodging is arranged by the OutRyders board, with group-rate deals. Expect group dinners, après meetups, dancing, and plenty of lobby or lounge hangouts. Because we’re staying together, these trips are where real friendships form—and why many members return to the same trips year after year.

What Does Trip Sign-Up Include?

  • Overnight trips: lodging + planned group events.
  • Day trips: just bring your gear and ride with your new friends!

Some trips include group lift ticket or rental discounts, but these are becoming rarer as resorts move away from bulk deals. Many members have IKON, EPIC, or Indy Passes, so group buying power varies. If you need a ticket, check the resort’s site for advance-purchase deals. We will do our best to get discounts whenever possible.

Pro Tip: Lift lines are your secret social weapon—chat up the person next to you and you might just make a new riding buddy.

What’s with the Rainbow Beads?

They’re our signature move. Every member gets a set—if you don’t have yours yet, see a board member. They help us spot each other on the mountain, keep the group together, and show our pride while we ride.

Pro Tip: Keep your beads visible all day—it’s the easiest way to find (and be found by) the crew.

Pre-Trip & On-Mountain Communication
Each trip has a trip leader who will send out an itinerary in advance of the trip with meeting spots, lunch locations, and any key info. We use our website/app forums as our main hub—every member has access to the groups on the website. The OutRyders app is available for Apple iOS and Androids so visit their respective app store and search for OutRyders. Once the app is downloaded, just join the groups that you are interested in (example – if you are going to the Sugarbush trip, you will want to join the Sugarbush group and communicate through the forums) and look for announcements or posts from other group members. That’s where you’ll find updates, meet-up plans, and plenty of trip photos. Expect chatter about who’s grabbing a hot chocolate, which run to hit next, or how to find the group if you’ve gotten separated.

Pro Tip: It’s every member’s mission and responsibility to help everyone feel included—invite someone into your lunch table, strike up a conversation on the lift, or wait for the straggler in your group.

How to Stay Connected All Season
The best way to stay in the loop? Our OutRyders website and new App and social media. That’s where you’ll find real-time updates, trip chatter, last-minute info, and all the in-the-moment fun. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for photos, stories, registration deadlines, event reminders, and keep an eye on the forums on our website or app for trip-specific details and on-mountain coordination. We also send out occasional member emails with bigger-picture updates and registration deadlines—but if you want the latest, fastest info, then the website or app forums, groups and our social media spaces are where it’s at.

More Questions?
We love questions. Reach out via the Contact Us form on the website, DM us on social, or post in our forums on the site or app—someone will get right back to you.
